Is Under Eye Filler Safe?

Hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, such as Restylane and Juvederm, can be used to lighten the dark circles under the eyes. By restoring lost volume, fillers can make under-eye areas appear brighter and plumper. Fillers can also reduce the appearance of shadows beneath the eyes, helping you look more youthful and well-rested. Under eye filler Michigan can serve as an effective alternative to under eye surgery, or blepharoplasty, to hide under eye bags.

It is important to note, however, that the FDA has not approved any filler for use under the eyes. Although dermal fillers are approved by the FDA for use in the nasolabial folds, lips, cheeks, and hands, that doesn’t mean it is unsafe to use under the eyes when performed by an expert.

Potential Side Effects of Under Eye Filler Treatment

During your initial consultation with Dr. West, she will assess your facial condition, explain all of your treatment options, and determine if under eye filler is right for you. Be sure to tell her about any allergies you may have to prevent a possible allergic reaction to the filler.

In most cases, eye filler side effects are very mild and short-lived. Side effects can include:

  • Bruising
  • Tiny red dot at injection site
  • Puffiness
  • Redness

The best way to avoid side effects is to choose a board-certified cosmetic surgeon to perform the procedure. A less-qualified practitioner can cause more serious side effects by applying the filler unevenly or unintentionally puncturing an artery or vein.
