The 5 Most Popular Nonsurgical Cosmetic Treatments

Nonsurgical cosmetic treatments continue to become more and more popular each year, largely due to their minimally invasive nature and ability to deliver effective results. Recent data shows that injectables like BOTOX® and fillers top the charts for the most popular cosmetic treatments, as well as several other nonsurgical skin treatments.

Dr. West shares the top five treatments in the last year and explains a bit about why each one remains so popular.

1. BOTOX

BOTOX was the most popular nonsurgical procedure in the past year, with more than 9 million treatments performed in 2023 alone. One aspect that contributes to those soaring numbers is the fact that BOTOX is popular among both men and women, as it can smooth away wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes while still maintaining a natural appearance. BOTOX is also relatively quick and easy, taking only about 15 minutes to inject with little to no downtime afterward.

2. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers

Hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvéderm® and Restylane® were the second most popular skin treatment in 2023, with more than 5 million injections administered. These fillers restore volume and fullness to the skin, effectively addressing issues like deep lines, wrinkles and loss of facial volume. Like BOTOX, HA fillers can deliver very smooth, natural-looking results in a short amount of time, making them a convenient and effective cosmetic treatment.

HA fillers are also unique in that they are the only type of injectable filler that can be dissolved using a special enzyme. This makes HA fillers a great choice for anyone looking to try injectables for the first time.

3. Skin Resurfacing Treatments

Skin resurfacing treatments include chemical peels, microdermabrasion and laser skin resurfacing. These non-invasive procedures work by safely and effectively removing the outer layer of built-up dead skin cells and debris, revealing the fresh new layer of skin underneath. Skin resurfacing can address a variety of concerns, including acne scars, sun damage and fine lines, making them popular treatments.

4. Lasers

Laser treatments – from laser hair removal to intense pulsed light (IPL) skin rejuvenation – can treat a wide range of common skin concerns and can be customized to suit your specific needs. This versatility and customization, combined with minimal downtime, make laser treatments one of the most popular cosmetic treatments year after year among both women and men.

5. Lip Fillers

HA fillers have become increasingly popular for their ability to plump and reshape the lips. Not only can properly placed lip fillers achieve very natural-looking results, but the procedure is also relatively quick, with minimal discomfort and no significant downtime. Results are noticeable immediately and can last from six months to a year, depending on the product used and individual factors.
