Frequently Asked Questions
Treatment is safe for Fitzpatrick skin types I through IV. Fitzpatrick skin type IV may require pre-treatment with topical skincare products. During your consultation, we’ll examine the unique features of your skin, your areas of concern, and level of damage to assess whether you’re a good fit for CO2 laser resurfacing. Ann Arbor’s Michigan Center for Cosmetic Services only provides treatments we know will be both safe and effective for our patients.
Within 2-3 weeks of your appointment, you should avoid intense sun exposure. In addition, discontinue retinol and AHAs/BHAs 1 week prior to avoid skin irritation unless otherwise directed by a physician. We also recommend avoiding self tanner 3 weeks before receiving this treatment.
As for post-care instructions, these can vary by patient. Therefore, Dr. West prefers to give these instructions during your visit so that you can get the best recommendations possible for your skin. When it comes to CO2 laser resurfacing, Ann Arbor patients can trust that we’ll provide individualized care.
Ann Arbor patients often report seeing visible differences in their skin after about 1 week post-treatment. However, your skin will continue to improve for months after your visit due to the increase in collagen production.
Expect a little extra bounce in your skin, plus smoother overall texture for a year or more. To enhance your results, we may recommend radiofrequency microneedling for even more collagen production, further boosting your skin’s youthful look.
