BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® are two popular injectable botulinum toxin treatments (or neuromodulators) used for the correction of these dynamic lines and wrinkles such as crow’s feet and frown lines. Botulinum toxin is a naturally occurring neurotoxic protein that when injected into underlying facial muscles, helps to relax the muscles that are causing the formation of lines and wrinkles. The neuromodulator simply blocks the signals sent by the nerves that cause the muscle contractions. Over time, this helps to smooth away existing lines and wrinkles, while helping to prevent the formation of new ones.
BOTOX Cosmetic is the most popular and well-known neuromodulator, made by the company Allergan, the same company behind the Juvéderm® collection of fillers.
Dysport is another effective option made by Galderma, who is also responsible for the Restylane® family of fillers.

BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport are great treatment options for men and women looking to minimize the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions. These injectable treatments will not help with signs of aging caused by a loss of volume but can be paired with dermal fillers as part of a liquid facelift to address these concerns. If you are experiencing more severe signs of aging, Dr. West may recommend facial surgery instead.
Generally, an injectable BOTOX Cosmetic or Dysport treatment will not require you to miss any time off work. Some minor bruising is to be expected, but you should feel well enough to resume your normal routine as soon as you leave our practice. We recommend avoiding any exercise or saunas for the remainder of the day after a neuromodulator treatment.
